Information About Spiral: From the Book of Saw (Jigsaw Spinoff)Jigsaw was Chris Rock's first foray into the horror genre, and he wanted to continue the Saw franchise in that direction. In the end, the Spierig Brothers, who directed Jigsaw, opted not to return for a follow-up. To far, Rock has worked on a screenplay by Stolberg and Goldfinger, which was formally unveiled in May of 2019. Production in Toronto was completed by August, with all cast members completing their roles by that time.
Spiral (2021) has a storyline.
Banks gets apprehended while following a lead, and he wakes up in the warehouse with his hands shackled to a pipe and a hacksaw close by. He gives some thought to chopping off his arm, but ultimately uses a bobby pin to get out of the situation. The next thing he notices is that his old colleague, Peter Dunleavy, who was sacked and sentenced to jail after Banks disclosed a murder he committed, is shackled in place. In front of him is a big machine designed to smash glass, and it has been altered so that it can swiftly throw shrapnel at him. It is revealed on a tape recorder that Banks has the option of either releasing him from his confinement or abandoning him to his fate. Although Banks makes an effort to rescue Dunleavy, he is unable to get the key in time. When Banks moved to another chamber, he found Schenk there. Schenk was discovered to have faked his own death by using the skinned body of the thief who lured Bozwick into the tunnels. Schenk was also revealed to have been the copycat the whole time. He says that his real surname is Emmerson and that he is the son of Charlie Emmerson, the man whom Dunleavy murdered because Charlie had promised to testify against a corrupt officer. Charlie was shot and killed by Dunleavy. In addition to this, he divulges the fact that Marcus, during the period that he served as chief, purposely shielded corrupt officers in order to rid the streets of crime more effectively in accordance with Article 8.
Emmerson gives Banks a last test, showing him Marcus suspended in the air and steadily losing blood. Emmerson phones 9-1-1 and says he's being chased by a gunman, so a SWAT squad is sent to his area. He gives Banks a handgun with one cartridge and gives him the option to rescue Marcus but let Emmerson escape or murder Emmerson and let Marcus bleed to death. Banks shoots the target to free his father, then fights Emmerson. The SWAT squad enters and accidentally trips a tripwire, yanking Marcus' shackles again. Marcus' arm moves, revealing a gun, so SWAT kills him thinking he's the shooter. Emmerson flees as Banks cries.

Chris Rock met Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns at a friend's wedding in Brazil and thought shooting a horror film would be a fresh direction for his career. He wanted to integrate humorous aspects in the picture. Lionsgate was intrigued in Rock's notion to prolong the series. Lionsgate CEO Joe Drake said Rock's approach was respectful to the material while reinvigorating the brand with his humor, artistic vision, and enthusiasm for the iconic horror property. By January 2018, reports indicated Lionsgate was planning a ninth Saw picture without the Spierig Brothers. The filmmakers told Screen Rant that their picture set up sequels. Twisted Pictures was planning a sequel with Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger in April 2018.
After Jigsaw, Stolberg and Goldfinger pitched a new Saw film based only on John Kramer / Jigsaw to series veterans Mark Burg and Oren Koules, but Burg and Koules phoned the pair to advise them about Rock's plans for a new film, with Rock calling them soon after to explore his notion. Before Rock, several writers presented their ideas for the next Saw film to Lionsgate, but none of them succeeded. Stolberg and Goldfinger had come up with eight versions of the picture before Rock blended his concept with theirs. Burg and Koules had the pair pitch Rock. Stolberg and Goldfinger's idea was accepted by Lionsgate and Rock, and they wrote a first screenplay that was greenlit a week later. Rock rewrote Stolberg and Goldfinger's script where needed.
Rock's role was originally based on Danny Glover's David Tapp from the original film. Because it didn't smell right, Stolberg and Goldfinger decided not to follow this route. It was reported by Bousman in May of 2021 that there had been negotiations regarding the possibility of Costas Mandylor returning to the role of Mark Hoffman in a future film. They debated bringing back Tobin Bell as Jigsaw until the very last day of production because they feared that by doing so, the film would seem like the ninth part in the Saw series rather than a standalone picture. Spiral: From the Book of Saw's director Doug Bousman thought that previous films had done Jigsaw a disservice by utilizing flashbacks to bring him into the tale, and he did not want to make the same mistake again or insult Kristen Bell's legendary portrayal. Bell was considered for inclusion in Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021), but Bousman discarded the concept because he thought it was too gimmicky to incorporate.
What happened to Tobin Bell?
As the film's murderer is a Jigsaw copycat, Billy the Puppet was substituted with Mr. Snuggles so the new killer cannot be compared to the original. Reusing Bell's voice for Mr. Snuggles could have created questions about the relationship between both killers; an early draft featured Jigsaw's voice only to be revealed a digitally altered version of his voice; the story originally had all the speeches as being past recordings of Jigsaw's voice using words in a different order to show that the Spiral (2021) Killer had digitally rearranged the words. The directors tried to replace Bell's lethal voice. Bousman tried women's, children's, and men's voices before deciding on the computer voice. The final voice was picked two days before the sound mix.
Exec producers include original Saw creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell. Scriptwriters Goldfinger and Stolberg have been confirmed.
When it came to buddy police movies like 48 Hrs., Burg and Koules compared Rock's approach of Saw to what Eddie Murphy had done for buddy cop pictures. According to the director, Spiral: From the Book of Saw has less violence and gore (posted) than previous Saw films, stating his belief that gore and violence were a gimmick for him when he first began working on the films, but that both components now serve the plot, which focuses more on character, suspense and terror.
Rock played Zeke Banks. Rock, Stolberg, and Goldfinger conceived the character from conversations they had before writing the screenplay, with Rock wondering what he would do if he were the original Saw protagonist Dr. Lawrence Gordon and forced to cut off his own foot. They decided it would be interesting if Rock played a cop ostracized by his colleagues.
Samuel L. Jackson decided to portray Chief Marcus Banks because he wanted to do something new, such as the climax sequence in which his character is hung up like a marionette. Marisol Nichols was cast as Captain Angie Garza, a character that was initially scripted for a male actress but was finally given to Nichols, who, while being a Saw fan, preferred to watch David Fincher's Seven instead of the prior films in preparation for the role. Patrick McManus auditioned for the part of Detective Marv Bozwick, but was called back to portray Peter Dunleavy, while Dan Petronijevic was cast as Bozwick, in an effort to pursue an acting career on film and television following years playing on stage.
On July 8, 2019, in Toronto, Ontario, under the working title of The Organ Donor, Jordan Oram was the cinematographer for the film's first shoot. It was reported that the picture will include the likes of Rock, Jackson, Minghella, and Nichols. According to Lionsgate CEO Joe Drake, the studio believes that Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Rock, Max Minghella, and Marisol Nichols, together with the rest of the Saw cast, will make this picture a unique entry in the franchise's canon, and they can't wait to show it to fans. This was Saw at its most extreme. On set, Rock contributed rewrites and reworked his character's entrance sequence. As Bousman put it, a trap scene had to be omitted from the film because it was too gruesome.
Filming ended on August 28, 2019. Dev Singh edited the film during post-production.
Spiral (2021) was released to the media on January 22, 2020, along with the Canadian distributor Mongrel Media, under the working title The Organ Donor. A teaser picture and video for Spiral: From the Book of Saw were unveiled on February 5, 2020, confirming its title.

On Rotten Tomatoes, 37% of 221 reviewers gave it a good grade, with an average score of 5.1/10. Spiral (2021)'s critical consensus was that it presents a fresh path for the Saw series, even if the gruesome aggregate is less than its components.
Surveys by CinemaScore and PostTrak show that audiences generally awarded the picture a B- on a scale of A+ to F, with 43% of those asked indicating they would strongly recommend it.
Another film reviewer said the writing maintained the grizzled-cop-movie tone and drew some interesting characters, but the plot was repetitive, the mystery was annoyingly foreseeable, and the inventive deaths were less imaginative than before. Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021) compromised entertainment value for respectability and failed to accomplish either.
Some film reviewers praised the performances and Spiral (2021)'s simple yet captivating idea, but they also remarked on the unknown killer's voice, which he claimed sounded like Kermit the Frog, and noted that the screams and gore aren't for the movie's intended demographic. They are, in fact, the attraction.
A film reviewer awarded the film one star out of five and criticized its finale, noting that he believed it was hurried and half-assed and clumsily written and worst of all, becoming progressively uninteresting.. He concluded his evaluation by declaring that the game was over.
Another film critic, in his one-and-a-half star review, criticized the film's tone and Darren Lynn Bousman's direction, which he said disappointed him despite his praise for the cast, and called it "downright illegible" for its lack of tension, story, and plot progression.
The opinion of Decker Shado about Spiral: From the Book of Saw. From the Saw book and Chris Rock's mind comes Spiral: From the Book of Saw, the latest Saw movie, which came out late in 2021. After a whole Summer of Saw, you should know how the story goes by now: a killer is on the loose who doesn't kill his victims directly, but instead tests them with clever and disturbing machines. At least, that's the idea behind it. Many of these traps leave a lot to be desired, and their methods and goals are also a bit off. His video explains it much better.
Another film critic said that it wasn't exactly a waste of an idea. But the franchise doesn't need to be changed up either. Rock's involvement in Spiral (2021) gives it some fresh blood, but after a promising start, the movie just turns out to be a pretty good Saw movie with some bigger names than usual—one whose dreary lighting and procedural storyline remind me most of David Fincher's Se7en. If the point of the game was to see if a new take on a long-running franchise could stand up to the sequel machine, then the game is over.

It merely want to lose a great deal of blood, which it does.
Will there be another game in the Spiral series?
Twisted Pictures revealed in April 2021 that a sequel film, named Saw X, is in the works. Bousman, on the other hand, felt that the announcement was made too soon, which startled him and the film's producers. He claims that just because they created Spiral doesn't imply the Saw franchise is dead. Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)'s arrival does not rule out the possibility of Saw IX. This is not the ninth installment in the Saw series. Jigsaw might very well be followed by Saw IX. I believe they're waiting to see how Spiral: From the Book of Saw performs and how viewers react before deciding what to do next. In December of that year, Josh Stolberg announced that the script was completed.
According to Deadline Hollywood, Lionsgate Television chairman Kevin Beggs said in an interview in April 2021 that the company is in negotiations with Twisted Television to produce a television series based on Spiral, as well as with Mark Burg and Oren Koules.
